Wah Lum Kung Fu of Tampa

Kung Fu - Tai Chi Chuan - Praying Mantis Style

Wah Lum Kung Fu of U.S.A. also includes traditional Tai Chi Chuan.

Tai Chi Chuan, translated " Supreme Ultimate Boxing" is one of the finest products of the Chinese philosophy and culture. Its movements are based upon the principles of the I-Ching and the theory of Yin (negative) and Yang (positive) energy in nature.

Tai Chi Chuan incorporates a system of rounded, flowing and balanced movements to be practiced daily for health and peace of mind.

The soft flowing movements of Tai Chi Chuan help people of all ages, young and old alike to improve their physical condition, decrease fatigue and develop endurance. Tai Chi Chuan increases the cardio-vascular system, increasing the circulation of blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. The combination of turning, stretching and twisting movements work to release tension and allows every part of the body to be exercised without strain.

Concentration, coordination, flexibility and balance will improve gradually over a period of time. Leading the student to a more relaxed and stress free life.

The Tai Chi Chuan movements are all based upon various self defense techniques practiced in China. Even though they are done very slowly, they are still based on martial arts techniques. Eventually, after the student has practiced the initial solo form, they will then begin to learn the "pushing hands" exercise. This will help to deepen the understanding of the self defense techniques and applications of the Tai Chi Chuan movements.

Tai Chi Chuan also includes a number of weapons, including straight sword, broadsword, stick and fan. These are learned after the initial Tai Chi Chuan movements are completed.
